hello, what is up?

Wed Jun 24, 2009, 2:53 AM
hey dA people.

the group of photographers here gets smaller and smaller, at least that is my impression. i only see a few new photographs every day. i think it's quite sad. i think today it is more hip to have a blog where (potential) "customers" can follow you. at least that's the idea. since it's much more work to write a blog every two weeks than just upload a few photographs here.
basically it's the same shit, just a different name. since "art" communities like dA have a unprofessional reputation. i remember having a good talk with a photographer from a fancy art school, when i mentioned that i know what she was talking about since i take photographs myself she got interested and ask if i had a website. by that time i didn't had one, i said i upload my stuff at dA the conversation was over. i found that funny. i know people like me are such a pain for professionals. we have good cameras as well and steal customers for less money. i know it's pretty bad... but i just like what i do, taking photographs. if i can make money with it, even better.

don't know why i write this. i actually wanted to tell you about what's going on over here.
i will not bitch about the frankenstein monster (thesis) that i'm working on...
i was ask to shoot a wedding this weekend. it was half mexican so it was a bit more exciting. i also took some baby photographs from little anton. it was the first time that i had a baby in front of the lens but it was very cool. the photographs look great as well. i got a fancy d700 camera from my friend nico [link] . now i want to dispose mine and get such a beast myself. hell yeah! where can i sign... !? it's actually the first dslr that i really like without any weakenings. the high iso was a real help. i never had a "sorry no light for this" moments.
i also got all the rolls from texel back from my new newly-discovered lab [link] . it was pretty expensive to do contact sheets. but since i can't process the film them myself anymore 3,30€ for a roll of black and white film is not expensive at all. i should not have ask them to do contract sheets.
i don't have a scanner anymore so i can't upload the stuff here. any suggestions for a scanner? what about the v500, heared horrible stories about it. don't know. i would like to scan medium format as well and spend as less money as possible, note me ;P

i hope i can show you some of the photographs from anton and the wedding soon. since they are quite private i totally understand if the couples don't want to see themselfs or anton online.
i also have the chance to see a few photographs in a magazine but don't know, don't hallo till it's out of the wood; see how that goes.
besides these things that are working quite well i guess, i'm still not happy about my own photographs. i take too much stuff out of situations and the results are all the same but now i have at least some ideas for the future.

now the dvds are burned and i can get back to my thesis, that keeps me busy for a while, so no photographs.

check my picasa [link] for more casual stuff. yeah, like a blog but at least i don't quit dA ;)

Indeed D700 is really an amazing machine. If you can afford it, just go for it!

no i can't and if i had 2000€ i guess i would buy a leica and a nice lens for it because in two years the 700 will just cost 500€, that's the crazy thing about cameras these days. but yeah i would one to have, sure:)

It doesn't matter if will cost 500€ (i won't anyway). For now it's the perfect machine. And that won't change in 2011.
:iconspanishjohnny:
okay, you have one, now i'm jealous :)
it's just that i don't have the money for it and i don't want to
sell all my cameras and lenses to buy a camera that will drop in price, for that it's just too much money i think. first i need a good scanner anyway...

Yes, I know about what are you talking about. Believe me.

It was hard money for me also...
:iconspanishjohnny:
yeah but it's worth the money

puh yeah I got like a huge bunch of negs lying around, but no darkroom at hand. Also I just finished a smaller drawing yesterday and I'm quite satisfied. It's just so very nice if you can just pick up your paper and start doing stuff and if you don't want anymore after ten minutes, no problem.
It sure will take some time until I reach a decent level, but I got the ideas. And since it will be at least October until I'm back in a darkroom I will continue with drawing and maybe a bit of painting.
So far so good :)
